California will observe Huell Howser Day on October 18, following the passage of Assemblyman Tri Ta’s ACR 54 earlier this year. The resolution recognizes the contributions of Huell Howser to California’s history, culture, and storytelling.
October 18 marks what would have been Howser’s 80th birthday. He died in 2013, but his influence remains significant throughout the state.
“Huell Howser showed us the beauty in everyday life throughout the Golden State,” said Assemblyman Tri Ta. “His no-frills style taught us to slow down and appreciate the stories that make our state so unique.”
Howser was widely known for producing “California’s Gold” and other PBS programs such as “Downtown,” “California’s Golden Coast,” “California’s Golden Parks,” and “Visiting…with Huell Howser.” These shows highlighted California’s people, landmarks, and unique stories.
The resolution encourages residents to mark Huell Howser Day by exploring their communities, visiting local sites, and appreciating California’s history and culture.
