Senator Janet Nguyen (R-Huntington Beach) is set to host a bipartisan press conference to discuss her animal rights legislative package before presenting it in the Senate Business, Professions, and Economic Development Committee. The press conference, scheduled for Monday, April 22 at 9:30 a.m., will focus on Senate Bill 1478 and Senate Bill 1459, which target the treatment of animals at shelters.
Joining Senator Nguyen at the press conference will be Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) and Dr. Kate Hurley, Director of the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program.
The event will take place at the Capitol steps in Sacramento, California, and will feature several four-legged friends in attendance. Those interested in attending the press conference are requested to RSVP to either Tori Richards or Jacqui Nguyen.
Senator Nguyen's legislative package includes SB 1478, focusing on veterinary medicine and registered veterinary technicians, and SB 1459, which addresses the role of veterinarians in animal shelters.
The press conference marks a significant step in Senator Nguyen's efforts to advocate for animal rights legislation, and the subsequent committee hearing will provide further insight into the proposed measures.
