Reps. Michelle Steel and Lou Correa have introduced a bipartisan House Resolution recognizing the 49th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the tragic collapse of the Republic of Vietnam. The resolution aims to honor the service members and individuals impacted by the events of the Vietnam War. Steel, representing Orange County's Little Saigon, expressed her pride in introducing the resolution, stating, "Black April is a time to reflect upon the tragic Fall of Saigon, remember the lives lost to Communism, and recommit ourselves to the struggle for democracy."
Correa, also representing a significant Vietnamese American community, emphasized the importance of remembering those who were forced to flee their homes and the American servicemembers who lost their lives in the pursuit of freedom. He emphasized the commitment to preserving the memory of the fallen, protecting human rights, and defending democracy both domestically and internationally.
The resolution not only commemorates the events of Black April but also acknowledges the contributions of Vietnamese Americans to the nation. It serves as a tribute to the fallen and a reminder of the ongoing fight for freedom.
