Assemblyman Tri Ta, Vice Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, has expressed his concerns regarding the recent college protests in California. In a statement released today, Ta emphasized his support for peaceful protests while addressing the disturbing events unfolding on college campuses.
"While I always support the right to peacefully protest, the videos coming from campuses throughout California are extremely concerning," stated Assemblyman Tri Ta. He highlighted the importance of college campuses as spaces for the free exchange of ideas and stressed that every student should feel safe on campus.
Ta condemned the targeting of students based on their support for Israel, describing it as "abhorrent." He specifically addressed the incidents at UCLA, labeling them as a "failure of leadership" and calling for immediate action to restore order.
"Campus administrators and local law enforcement should take immediate steps to restore order to California’s campuses," Ta urged. He emphasized the need for disciplinary action and potential arrests for students engaging in activities such as blocking access, harassing peers, or resorting to violence.
The Assemblyman concluded by calling on campus leaders to take a firm stance against antisemitism, violent protests, and the forcible occupation of campus buildings. He emphasized that such behaviors cannot be tolerated in any educational setting.
