The landmark civil rights case, Mendez v. Westminster, paved the way for school desegregation in California.
ORANGE COUNTY—Today, Assemblyman Tri Ta announced that AB 1805, his bill to include the historic Mendez et al v. Westminster School District of Orange County et al case in the school social science curriculum, has passed the Legislature and is awaiting action by Governor Newsom.
“I am so honored to work with Sylvia Mendez and her family to bring this historic case to the forefront by ensuring California students learn her courageous story,” said Assemblyman Tri Ta. “The fight for civil rights in our schools took place right here in Orange County. Sharing the legacy of Sylvia Mendez and the other families will help inspire generations about the importance of human dignity, civil rights, and the fight for justice,” concluded Ta.

The Governor has until the end of September to take action on this legislation.
