U.S. Representative Michelle Steel delivered her farewell address on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, marking the end of her tenure in Congress. In her speech, Steel reflected on her achievements and expressed gratitude to her constituents for their support.

"Only in America can a first-generation immigrant – who speaks English as a third language – rise to become a member of this body," Steel stated. She shared that when her parents fled Communist North Korea for South Korea, they could not have imagined their daughter standing in Congress.

Steel highlighted several accomplishments during her time representing Orange and Los Angeles Counties. These include securing funding for beach improvements through sand replenishment, infrastructure investments, expanding telehealth coverage, and advocating for lower taxes. Her legislative efforts also aimed at enhancing language access in telehealth services and supporting mental health for youth in foster care.

She emphasized her advocacy for human rights globally and opposition to communist regimes that violate them. "These accomplishments are not mine alone," she said, acknowledging the support from leadership figures such as Speakers Kevin McCarthy and Mike Johnson, Steve Scalise, Tom Emmer, Elise Stefanik, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and others.

Serving on committees like Ways & Means and Education and Workforce allowed Steel to work on economic benefits for Americans and quality education initiatives. She noted efforts against antisemitism on campuses with Chairwoman Virginia Foxx's support and reducing Communist China's influence through legislation like the DETERRENT Act.

Steel mentioned passing legislation to prevent military reliance on Chinese technology seaports and strengthening Taiwan's military readiness via the Taiwan Security Act. "Congress must keep their eye on the CCP," she urged.

As she returns to Southern California, Steel expressed intent to continue serving the country she loves: "I will always treasure the friendships I’ve made... Like all journeys, this one is ending for a new one to begin."
