The State Assembly has approved a $2.5 billion bipartisan funding package aimed at addressing wildfires in Los Angeles County. This decision follows the Governor's amendment to the Special Legislative Session, which now includes immediate action for wildfire response and recovery.
Assemblyman Tri Ta expressed his support for the funding package, stating, "Urgent funding cannot get to our communities fast enough." He emphasized that while this step is crucial, more efforts are needed to prevent future fires from impacting California neighborhoods. "I look forward to working with my colleagues to prioritize clearing brush and properly managing our open spaces to reduce fire fuel. We must do all we can to prevent a future tragedy," Ta added.
A notable feature of the legislation is its requirement for the Department of Finance to maintain a public website with detailed reports on how the funds are utilized. However, an amendment proposed by Assembly Republicans seeking an additional $1 billion for fire prevention was rejected by the majority party.
The Governor is expected to sign the legislation later today.
