WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Michelle Steel issued a statement today in response to President Biden’s recent executive order on border security, criticizing it as ineffective and politically motivated.

“With five months until Election Day, President Biden has announced a weak half-measure that unlike the House-passed H.R 2, fails to fix the border crisis he created. Three and a half years after he took office and promptly issued executive orders to reduce our border security, this political gimmick won’t work. It fails to restore proven border security measures and follows a record-high of nearly 10 million illegal crossings since the President took office,” said Rep. Steel.

“This executive action is pure window dressing. It fails to fix the broken asylum program, fails to reinstate the successful ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, and fails to enhance physical security on our southern border. My constituents support serious, responsible solutions to the border crisis, such as the House-passed H.R. 2, which I strongly supported and would actually secure the border.”

Rep. Steel represents California’s 45th Congressional District, which includes parts of Los Angeles County and Orange County.
