Rep. Michelle Steel’s legislation to honor Vietnam War veterans by renaming the U.S. Post Office in Westminster has advanced through Congress, with the bill passing in committee on Wednesday.

The legislation proposes renaming the facility the “Little Saigon Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Post Office.” Little Saigon in Orange County, CA, hosts the largest population of Vietnamese outside of Vietnam.

“The Westminster Post Office holds a special place in the Little Saigon community, and dedicating the facility to our brave Vietnam War veterans will honor their contributions to the cause of freedom over communism,” said Rep. Michelle Steel. “The Little Saigon Vietnam Veterans Memorial Post Office will be a lasting tribute to our veterans as well as the freedom-loving Vietnamese American community of Orange County. My bill took a huge step forward by passing a congressional committee and I will keep working to push it across the finish line.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Congresswoman Steel for her work to honor Vietnam War veterans through the renaming of the Westminster Post Office. Her effective advocacy in Congress will ensure that our community has a lasting tribute to these heroes and their fight for freedom,” said Frank Barry, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1024.

Steel garnered support from the entire California House delegation for this measure, which now awaits final passage in the House of Representatives.
