Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA) expressed her intentions behind the legislation she introduced to rename the U.S. Post Office in Westminster in a statement, saying, “The Vietnam war, and the brave Americans who fought and served during that time, hold particular significance for the Vietnamese Community in Little Saigon.” Steel added, “By renaming the Westminster post office the ‘Little Saigon Vietnam Veterans Memorial Post Office,’ we will create an eternal tribute, not only to the heroic sacrifice of our Vietnam Veterans, but also to the vibrant and dynamic Vietnamese-American community living and working in Little Saigon. I am proud to offer this resolution to provide this meaningful, lasting recognition for our heroes and the Vietnamese community that has found freedom here in the United States.”
The post office, located at 9317 Bolsa Avenue, is set to be renamed as the “Little Saigon Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Post Office” to honor the significant contributions and sacrifices made by the Vietnamese community and the Vietnam War veterans. This move is supported by various organizations and individuals, including the Chapter 1024 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Westminster Chamber of Commerce, and the Venerable Thich Vien Ly of Westminster’s Buddhist Dieu Ngu Temple.
The legislation introduced by Rep. Steel has garnered support from a significant number of congressional co-sponsors, including Reps. Adam Schiff, Ami Bera, Anna Eshoo, Barbara Lee, Brad Sherman, Darrell Issa, and many others. This bipartisan effort aims to pay homage to the more than 58,000 American soldiers who lost their lives during the Vietnam War and to acknowledge the resilience and contributions of the Vietnamese-American community.
